The Ministry of State Security of China has issued a warning regarding the risks of AI-driven voice cloning. Criminals may remain silent for three seconds after a call is connected to prompt the victim to speak. This brief audio sample can be used to clone a person's voice and facilitate fraudulent activities.
AI technology is now capable of processing biometric data such as facial images, iris patterns, and gait. Malicious applications often collect this information under the guise of facial recognition verification. These standardized biometric features are extracted from public online content or captured without user consent.
Deepfake technology allows for the creation of digital avatars using a single photograph and a few seconds of audio. These tools are increasingly used for impersonation, financial scams, and spreading misinformation. AI can also analyze facial images and gait data to infer physical traits, age, and emotional states.
The Supreme People's Court of China has clarified that the illegal acquisition, sale, or provision of facial images and videos constitutes a crime. Authorities advise the public to follow the principle of providing biometric data only when strictly necessary and to remain vigilant against privacy collection traps.
