The city of Seattle has launched the Curbside Level 2 EV Charging Program, a joint initiative between Seattle City Light and the Seattle Department of Transportation. The project aims to install 200 new curbside charging stations by 2030 to support residents living in apartments or condominiums without private driveways.

The program follows a pilot project conducted in 2023 and 2024, during which 58 public Level 2 chargers were installed across 31 locations. These units demonstrated high usage rates and received positive feedback, prompting the city to expand the network.

The new chargers will offer a charging power of up to 9.6 kW. The city has set the current pricing for the service at $0.21 per kWh. Seattle City Light will manage the operation of these stations once they are installed.

Funding for the initiative comes from the voter-approved Seattle Transportation Levy. For installations outside the city limits, including areas like Burien, SeaTac, Shoreline, and Tukwila, the utility will utilize its dedicated transportation electrification budget.

Residents can submit requests for charger installations via the official Seattle website until the fall of 2027. The city will prioritize locations based on existing charging availability and local demand. Construction is scheduled to commence in late 2027.
