The independent developer has released an open-source utility named SCSKiller, designed to eliminate stuttering in PC games caused by shader compilation. The tool performs pre-compilation of shaders using local system resources, which prevents performance drops during gameplay.
SCSKiller is compatible with DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 titles and supports both AMD and Nvidia graphics cards. The software automatically detects games installed via platforms such as Steam, GOG, Epic Games, Ubisoft Connect, and Battle.net, generating the necessary shader code upon user request.
For certain titles, the utility requires a brief recording session where the user plays for a few minutes to identify specific shaders needing compilation. While the core software is open-source, sponsors gain access to a hash-based database that can bypass the manual caching process.
The developer notes that the tool is ineffective for most games with built-in anti-cheat systems, with exceptions for titles supporting offline modes like Elden Ring or Armored Core VI. Testing has shown significant reduction or elimination of stuttering in games including Hogwarts Legacy.
