The Platform V DataSpace team at SberTech is integrating its GraphQL API with AI agents using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). DataSpace, a low-code platform for business application development and data management, provides a GraphQL interface for database interactions.
The engineering team identified that while GraphQL schemas define types and arguments, they do not inherently manage the scope of access granted to AI agents. The primary challenge was to maintain strict control over API contracts, data types, and security protocols while enabling agentic functionality.
To address this, the developers designed an MCP adapter that generates tools based on pre-defined GraphQL operations. This approach allows the team to explicitly select which parts of the API are exposed to the AI, ensuring that the integration remains secure and predictable.
