Samsung Electronics has projected a record-breaking quarterly operating profit of ₩107.4 trillion, equivalent to approximately $80.17 billion. This figure represents a nine-fold increase compared to the same period last year and marks the first time the company has exceeded the ₩100 trillion threshold in a single quarter.
The anticipated profit surpasses analyst expectations of ₩106.1 trillion. This result would mark the fourth consecutive quarter of record-breaking operating profit for the firm, driven largely by the global shortage of memory chips fueled by artificial intelligence infrastructure demands.
Revenue for the third quarter is expected to reach ₩195 trillion, a 127% increase year-over-year. Samsung plans to release its comprehensive financial report on October 29. Analysts attribute the bulk of these gains to the semiconductor division, where high-bandwidth memory chips for AI servers command high margins.
While the company prioritizes high-bandwidth memory production, shipments of conventional DRAM are expected to remain flat. The shift in production capacity has led to rising component costs, which have negatively impacted the profitability of Samsung's smartphone and consumer electronics units, forcing the company to raise retail prices.
Looking ahead, industry experts anticipate that memory chip demand will continue to outpace supply through 2027 and into 2028. However, analysts note potential risks for the company, including increased competition in China and the possibility of new U.S. tariffs on foreign semiconductor manufacturers.
