According to CryptoRank, trading volume for real-world asset (RWA) perpetuals dropped by 13.5% in August, reaching $122 billion. This marks the first monthly decline for the segment since January 2026, ending a six-month growth streak.

The decline coincided with a broad rally in the wider cryptocurrency market. Bitcoin rose by 25% in August, its best performance for the month since 2017, while Ethereum gained 32.5%. Analysts suggest traders shifted focus back to major assets, reducing the demand for RWA perpetuals.

Despite the monthly dip, current volume remains more than five times higher than the January level of $23.1 billion. Public equities have emerged as the leading category, representing 67% of HIP-3 volume on the Hyperliquid exchange in August.

Market infrastructure is also expanding, with new centralized exchange listings for tokenized assets rising to 199 in August, compared to 98 in July. Future data will determine if the August decline represents a temporary rotation or a long-term trend.
