A survey conducted by Tecno among 1,500 residents of major Russian cities aged 18 to 60 reveals that most people prefer to choose expensive electronics themselves. When it comes to smartphones, 76% of respondents want to select the model personally, while only 24% are open to receiving them as a surprise.
Similar preferences apply to other devices: 69% of users want to choose laptops, 58% prefer to select tablets, and 54% want to pick smartwatches themselves. Conversely, 62% of participants are comfortable receiving headphones as a surprise, and 71% feel the same about accessories like cases, chargers, and power banks.
The primary reasons for choosing devices personally include technical specifications (34%), compatibility with existing equipment (27%), design and dimensions (22%), and personal habits (17%). Furthermore, 44% of respondents prefer to provide a list of suitable models to maintain an element of surprise.
The willingness to accept a surprise gift correlates with the price of the device. For gadgets costing less than 5,000, 68 ₽% of respondents are willing to trust the giver's choice. However, for items priced above 30,000 ₽, this figure drops significantly to just 23%.
