Russia plans to launch a digital geological platform by 2027 to centralize and analyze subsurface data. The system will integrate information from the Federal Geological Information Fund and utilize 20-30 artificial intelligence agents to process geological reports, field models, and project documentation.
VK Tech is acting as the IT integrator for the project. The platform will be based on the Open Subsurface Data Standard, which is compatible with the international Open Subsurface Data Universe. The initiative aims to enable collaborative work between state and corporate geological models.
The project will begin with a pilot program focused on the continental shelf, where geological data is already digitized. Future plans include linking the platform to a federal program for high-performance computing and AI technologies, which is currently being developed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
Industry experts note that the primary costs involve digitizing and standardizing data. While a two-year timeline is considered realistic for developing the core platform and completing the pilot, full-scale implementation across the country remains a complex task due to data privacy concerns and the need for high-quality datasets.
