Rostelecom has completed the construction of the Transit Europe-Asia Next fiber-optic line, spanning 7,600 kilometers across Russia. The project, which began in the summer of 2020, was executed by Atlas, a joint venture between Rostelecom and Alfa-Bank. The total investment in the infrastructure reached 28.1 ₽ billion.

The network connects the western and eastern borders of Russia, passing through 22 regions with access points to China and Mongolia. The system features 96 dark fibers and utilizes G.654 optical cables with DWDM technology. The peak throughput capacity of the line reaches 1 petabit per second.

The new route offers a round-trip latency of no more than 65 milliseconds between Moscow and Kyakhta, which is significantly lower than existing subsea alternatives. The infrastructure is designed for a service life of at least 25 years and relies on domestically produced components to support local manufacturers.

Initial capacity leases have already been secured by Russian telecommunications operators. Furthermore, the company reports significant interest from international carriers in China, Mongolia, and CIS countries, as well as from global OTT service providers looking to utilize the new trans-Eurasian connection.
