Rosatom has launched six initial projects focused on developing quantum sensors. These devices are intended for use in navigation, geological exploration, metrology, telecommunications, and scientific research. The initiative is part of the federal project Applied Research and Advanced Development under the national program Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State.

The corporation aims to implement experimental quantum sensor prototypes across various economic sectors by 2030. The program seeks to enhance the competitiveness of Russian industry through domestic technological advancements. Officials expect the integration of these sensors to yield economic benefits within three to five years.

The selection process involved a technical review of 70 proposals conducted throughout 2025. In December 2025, the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences approved 15 of these applications. The six current projects include the development of quantum scalar magnetometers, atomic gravimeters, laser gyroscopes, and superconducting tunnel nanostructure thermometers.

These quantum sensors are designed to support tasks such as autonomous navigation based on the Earth's magnetic field, mineral exploration, and the advancement of the GLONASS satellite system. The technology is expected to improve measurement precision and enable real-time process control, potentially reducing operational costs across multiple industries.
