Rivian has released an October software update for its R2 vehicle model, identified by version number 2026.35. The update introduces a new Pet Cam feature designed to work in conjunction with the existing Pet Comfort Mode. This allows owners to monitor their pets inside the vehicle via the Rivian mobile app or lock screen when they are away from the car.

The Pet Comfort Mode maintains a stable cabin temperature and displays status information on the central screen for bystanders. Additionally, the update adds a function to adjust the maximum opening height of the electric tailgate. This feature is intended to prevent the tailgate from hitting the ceiling in low-clearance environments like parking garages.

Looking ahead, the company announced plans to expand its software capabilities in early 2027. Rivian intends to introduce a Teen Mode and a Valet Mode for its vehicles. These features will allow owners to set specific driving restrictions and privacy settings for other users, aiming to enhance vehicle safety and security.
