A user under the nickname SharpLoquat579 reported an issue with his Asus GeForce RTX 4090 after nearly three years of use. The GPU began overheating during heavy gaming sessions, with hotspot temperatures reaching 112 degrees Celsius while the average GPU temperature remained below 70 degrees Celsius.

The owner sent the card to the retailer Galaxus on August 27, 2026, requesting a repair or replacement before the warranty expired on September 5, 2026. However, an external service center deemed the device irreparable and disposed of it as electronic waste without notifying the owner.

Galaxus confirmed that the unit was recycled due to the severity of the defect. The retailer offered a full refund of the original purchase price. However, the owner noted that this amount covers only about a third of the current market price for a new RTX 4090.

While the original recommended retail price was $1 600, current prices for the remaining new units have risen to between $3 000 and $4 000 due to production cessation and market shortages. The user now faces significant additional costs to replace the hardware.
