The open-source command line tool RemoveMacAI allows users to remove Apple Intelligence features and associated data from macOS. The utility was created to address the lack of a single settings toggle for disabling these AI functions in recent versions of the operating system.
The developer states that the tool disables Siri, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, and the ChatGPT extension. It also deletes the foundation models from the disk and prevents macOS from automatically downloading them again. These changes are designed to persist across system updates.
While the developer notes that the AI models occupy approximately 12 GB of storage, some users report higher usage. One instance showed Apple Intelligence consuming 35.05 GB of space on a MacBook Air, a figure verified via the storage settings menu.
The tool includes a revert command that restores the AI features and allows the models to be downloaded again. Additionally, users can utilize the status command to view the size of individual AI models currently stored on their Mac device.
