Reddit is discontinuing support for RSS feeds, citing concerns over large-scale scraping and automated abuse. The company plans to shut down its public API by March 2027, which will impact social listening tools, research software, and AI assistants that rely on programmatic access to platform data.

The platform reported that its revenue outside of advertising grew 24% year-over-year to $43 million in the second quarter, driven by AI licensing deals. By restricting data access, Reddit aims to prevent the free scraping of user-generated content that has become a significant revenue stream.

For moderators, Reddit recommends migrating workflows to the Discord Relay Devvit app before the November 13 deadline. However, the company noted that there is no direct replacement for general RSS feeds used outside of moderation teams.

Additionally, Reddit is implementing new safeguards for the Old Reddit interface, limiting access to logged-in moderators and users active within the last 90 days. Developers of third-party apps and bots must register their projects with the company by January 12, 2027, to maintain access.
