Reddit is restricting data access to combat automated scraping and platform abuse. RSS feeds will be disabled on November 13, 2026, and public API access will be fully terminated in March 2027. New requests for public API access will be blocked starting October 31, 2026.

The company is encouraging developers to migrate to its Devvit platform. To support this transition, Reddit has launched a $1 million App Migration Program, offering $1,000 payments and free hosting to eligible apps. Applications for this program must be submitted by November 30, 2026.

Over 14,000 applications and bots have already registered for the migration. Popular tools such as DeltaBot, MagicEyeBot, and RemindMeBot have already completed or are nearing the end of their transition to the new infrastructure.

Access for existing unregistered apps will begin to be phased out on January 12, 2027. Additionally, the older version of the site, known as Old Reddit, will soon be restricted to logged-in users who have accessed the platform within the last six months, with exceptions for moderators.

Reddit has previously taken legal action against companies like Anthropic, Perplexity, and several data-scraping firms over unauthorized content usage. In 2024, the company also secured a licensing agreement with Google valued at approximately $60 million per year for AI model training.
