The author attended the 'Exchange Algorithm 2026' conference, held on October 9. The journey involved a flight from Perm to Moscow. While the airline Pobeda cancelled all flights on that route that day, the author successfully reached the event using Aeroflot.
The return trip the following day encountered significant operational delays. The Sukhoi Superjet aircraft performed four landing attempts in Perm, including one at a very low altitude, before diverting to Yekaterinburg. Some passengers disembarked at the diversion airport, which necessitated a security check involving a canine unit.
After refueling in Yekaterinburg, the flight eventually returned to Perm, resulting in an arrival delay of approximately five hours. The author uses this experience to illustrate that, much like flight plans, algorithmic trading strategies often fail to account for unforeseen real-world variables despite looking promising in historical models.
