Qualcomm has unveiled its latest flagship mobile processors, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both chips are manufactured using a 2nm process, marking Qualcomm's first venture into this silicon scale. They share identical CPU configurations, featuring two primary cores clocked at up to 5GHz and six performance cores reaching up to 4GHz.

The Extreme variant offers enhanced capabilities in AI processing, gaming, and video recording. It supports 8K video capture at 60fps and 4K at 240fps, alongside the Advanced Professional Video codec. The chip also includes a larger shared memory pool for its NPU and dedicated matrix cores in the GPU to improve performance when utilizing AI-driven gaming features.

Despite the shared architecture in modems, security, and display support, the Extreme model is positioned as having superior overall performance across its CPU, GPU, and NPU. The company has confirmed that several manufacturers will adopt these new processors, including Vivo, Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, iQoo, Nubia, OnePlus, Redmi, Redmagic, and ZTE.

Motorola has already announced that its upcoming flagship device, the Signature 27, will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. These new 2nm chips join existing industry offerings such as the Apple A20 Pro and the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro in the smartphone market.
