Nintendo is reportedly considering the use of an upgraded Samsung 8nm process chip for the potential Switch 2 Lite handheld console. The current Switch 2 model utilizes the Nvidia T239 processor, which is manufactured using the existing Samsung 8nm technology.

The T239 chip features eight Arm Cortex-A78C CPU cores and a GPU based on the Ampere architecture with 1536 CUDA cores, covering an area of approximately 207 square millimeters. Samsung plans to present its new 8LPU+ process at the IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting on December 14.

The 8LPU+ process is expected to offer a 12 percent performance increase and a 15 percent reduction in power consumption compared to the previous 8LPU technology. These improvements could theoretically benefit smaller handheld devices, although official specifications for the Switch 2 Lite remain unconfirmed.
