Perplexity has released Portable Computer for Windows, an AI agent designed for multistep tasks that runs locally on a user's PC. Unlike the cloud-based Perplexity Computer, the local version does not consume credits for its operations. The software allows for scheduled recurring tasks and includes local Model Context Protocol servers for desktop applications.
The application supports integration with services such as Microsoft Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub. Users can download local models, such as Qwen 3.8 27B, directly through the interface. While the agent operates locally, it retains the ability to send tasks to cloud models if the user provides explicit permission.
The software requires Nvidia RTX GPUs equipped with at least 24GB of VRAM. Compatible consumer cards include the RTX 3090, 3090 Ti, 4090, and 5090. Professional RTX Blackwell series cards, such as the 4000, 4500, 5000, and 6000 models, also meet the hardware requirements.
Nvidia announced that RTX Spark Windows PCs from Lenovo and Acer are expected to launch in October. These systems will feature simplified local setups for agents like Hermes Agent and OpenClaw. For existing owners of compatible hardware, the release provides an alternative to purchasing dedicated systems like the DGX Spark Founders Edition, which is priced at $4,699.
