Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir, stated in a CNBC interview on September 17 that leading AI labs like Anthropic may be seeking nationalization. According to Karp, this strategy aims to secure government protection against potential lawsuits involving intellectual property theft.

Karp noted that clients have reported instances where proprietary business concepts were incorporated into chatbot training data, leading to the exposure of sensitive information to competitors. He argues that the scale of potential litigation makes government intervention the only viable shield for these companies.

In June, Palantir released a manifesto outlining nine principles regarding data security. The document urges companies to keep data internal rather than sharing it with external entities, warning that transferring such data grants others access to winning strategies and production assets.

Karp rejects the framing of the current AI debate as a simple conflict between regulation and deregulation. Instead, he maintains that AI firms are positioning themselves to request government protection to mitigate legal liabilities arising from their data practices.
