Orbits, a startup with offices in Toronto and San Francisco, secured nearly $2 million in a pre-seed funding round. The investment was led by the a16z Speedrun fund from Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from N49P, Garage Capital, and various angel investors, including an Anthropic team member.

The company is developing Bit, an AI-powered household assistant designed to automate domestic tasks. Unlike standard chatbots, Bit is engineered to perform actions such as browsing websites, logging into accounts, making purchases, booking reservations, and coordinating family schedules or chores.

The startup emphasizes security, noting that it employs end-to-end encryption for third-party credentials and does not store them. The founders, Nomaan Ahmed and Tillberg, aim to position the software as a shared intelligent layer for the home, targeting tasks that typically require human intervention.

The newly raised capital will be allocated toward infrastructure development and hiring. Orbits intends to expand the reach of the Bit application, which is currently available for iOS and Android, to a broader user base beyond its initial group of families.
