The Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra features a high-density display with a 3270x2180 resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio. High native resolution creates significant load for DLSS upscaling, while the aspect ratio can cause visual distortion in games designed for 16:9 or 16:10 formats.
To optimize gaming performance, users can set a custom resolution of 1764x1176 at 120Hz via the Nvidia App. This configuration provides a balance between image sharpness and frame rates, outperforming the system's default 1600x1024 mode.
Testing in Control Resonant showed that using the 1764x1176 resolution with DLSS Quality upscaling resulted in an average of 83.4 FPS and 67.8 ms latency. Enabling MFG 3X further increased the average to 123 FPS with 71 ms latency.
The Surface Laptop Ultra consumes between 110 W and 120 W under load, compared to 250 W for a legacy RTX 3080 Mobile system. The total weight of the Surface unit with its 140W adapter is 2.39 kg, significantly lighter than the 4.1 kg required for the older setup.
