David Robinson, who led the safety transparency team at OpenAI, has reportedly resigned. His departure occurred in late September or early October 2026, coinciding with the reported termination of three other safety researchers. OpenAI has not issued an official confirmation regarding his exit.
Robinson was responsible for public disclosures and system cards, which detail model capabilities and potential risks. His professional activity in this role ceased after mid-September 2026. The reported terminations of his colleagues were linked to allegations of sharing sensitive information with an external organization.
The company has experienced significant leadership turnover, with over a dozen senior executives departing in 2026, including chief revenue officer Denise Dresser. These changes occur as OpenAI prepares for a potential public listing.
Since 2025, the safety division has undergone multiple restructurings. In July 2026, former head of safety systems Johannes Heidecke left the firm. Subsequently, OpenAI integrated its safety teams into the research division, which now reports to VP of Research and Safety Mia Glaese.
