Starting in December, OpenAI will implement a unified usage quota for ChatGPT and Codex. This change applies to users subscribed to Plus, Pro, and Business plans as the company integrates agent capabilities into the main ChatGPT interface.
Usage across both platforms will be measured in tokens, with consumption rates varying based on the selected model and task complexity. Instant Chat interactions remain exempt from these usage limits.
Users can monitor their combined remaining quota and the next reset time via the Settings and Usage menu. If the limit is reached, subscribers may wait for an automatic reset, upgrade their plan, or purchase additional credits.
OpenAI is currently managing the transition to ensure minimal disruption to user workflows. The company anticipates that the frequency of quota resets will remain consistent for the vast majority of users.
