OpenAI is currently in discussions regarding a new funding round that could value the company at over $1.2 trillion. The startup is seeking additional capital to support its long-term growth and infrastructure requirements, with some reports suggesting the company is aiming for an even higher valuation.
Internal projections indicate that OpenAI expects a negative free cash flow of $278 billion between 2024 and 2030. The company anticipates total revenues to grow from $36 billion this year to $350 billion by 2030, with cumulative revenue for the period estimated at $840 billion.
Computing power and infrastructure represent the largest expenditure for the firm, with projected costs reaching $856 billion by the end of 2030. OpenAI previously raised $122 billion in March, though current forecasts suggest these funds will be exhausted by 2028.
CEO Sam Altman stated that an initial public offering is unlikely before 2027. He noted that a public listing would be ill-advised at this stage, citing ongoing concerns regarding artificial intelligence safety and the potential need for a slower development pace.
