OpenAI is preparing to integrate Google Cloud TPU AI ASIC chips into its infrastructure. The company has initiated a recruitment process for engineers tasked with leading the optimization and adaptation of its models to run on Google hardware.

Internal sources indicate that OpenAI intends to purchase TPU chips from Google. This move marks a shift in the company's hardware strategy, which has previously relied on NVIDIA, AMD, Cerebras, and AWS, alongside the development of its own Jalapeño chip.

The company previously conducted early tests of Google TPU technology in July 2025. While there were no plans for large-scale deployment at that time, the current recruitment efforts suggest a change in the company's approach over the past five quarters.
