OpenAI has officially announced that the GPT-5.5 model will be discontinued across all platforms, including ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex. The shutdown is scheduled for October 14, affecting all subscription tiers currently utilizing this version.
The company advises users who rely on GPT-5.5 within the Codex environment to transition to newer alternatives. Specifically, OpenAI recommends migrating to either the GPT-5.6 Sol or the GPT-6 Astra models to ensure continued service functionality.
The GPT-5.5 model was originally introduced by OpenAI on April 24 of this year. At the time of its launch, the company highlighted that the model offered improved efficiency compared to its predecessor, GPT-5.4, by reducing token consumption for identical tasks.
