OpenAI reported that its annualized revenue reached nearly $70 billion by the end of September 2026. This figure marks a significant increase from the $40 billion run rate recorded in August, representing growth of over 70% since the beginning of the third quarter.
The primary driver of this growth is the enterprise sector, where revenue has more than doubled since July as corporate clients transition from pilot programs to larger commitments. Consumer product revenue in the third quarter alone surpassed the company's total consumer revenue for the entire year of 2025.
Despite the surge in sales, OpenAI remains unprofitable due to high infrastructure and model training costs. The company is reportedly preparing for a potential IPO in 2027, though investors remain focused on the path to profitability and audited financial results.
The news impacted related tech stocks, with shares of Oracle, a provider of computing capacity for OpenAI, rising by as much as 8%. OpenAI continues to compete with firms like Anthropic for enterprise contracts and developer market share.
