OpenAI has reported a significant increase in its annualized recurring revenue, which reached nearly $70 billion by late September 2026. This figure represents a substantial rise from the $40 billion recorded just one month prior, marking a 70% growth since the beginning of the third quarter.
The surge is attributed to rapid adoption in both enterprise and consumer sectors. Enterprise sales have more than doubled since July, while consumer revenue for the third quarter alone has already exceeded the total consumer revenue generated by the company throughout the entire year of 2025.
The AI coding tool Codex is identified as a key driver for business growth, as engineering teams increasingly integrate it into their workflows. This expansion has also impacted the broader market, with Oracle shares rising by 5.3% following reports that OpenAI represents approximately half of its compute backlog.
Despite the rapid revenue growth, OpenAI has not yet achieved profitability. The company continues to face high operational costs associated with training advanced AI models and maintaining large-scale inference capabilities, which consume significant financial resources.
