OpenAI has hired three former executives from the creator subscription platform Patreon to bolster its product strategy for creators. Sam Yam, co-founder and former CTO of Patreon, announced on X that he is joining OpenAI to lead the company's creator product division.
Yam is joined by Patreon's former head of product, Drew Rowny, and former head of engineering, Shannon Ma. Both executives departed Patreon in recent weeks. The team will focus on developing new tools for creators and their communities, with early access to some features expected soon.
The new hires follow a period of transition at Patreon, which laid off approximately 20 percent of its staff in January and recently announced a major product roadmap. OpenAI is expected to showcase new developments at its upcoming DevDay event, scheduled for September 29.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hinted at further significant announcements expected this week. By recruiting leadership from a platform with over a decade of experience in the subscription economy, OpenAI aims to accelerate its entry into the creator monetization sector.
