The ChatGPT mobile application achieved 1 billion monthly active users by May 2026. According to Sensor Tower, this makes it the fastest application to reach such a benchmark, surpassing the record previously held by TikTok.
OpenAI has filed confidentially for a potential initial public offering. The company currently serves 2.5 million corporate clients through its enterprise business, which provides API access, custom deployments, and premium features.
Competition in the sector is increasing as Google reported that its Gemini product surpassed 1 billion monthly users by August 2026. Meanwhile, Anthropic has not disclosed specific user figures for its Claude platform.
