OpenAI projects a cumulative negative free cash flow of $278 billion between 2026 and 2030. This forecast is a downward revision from the previous estimate of $305 billion made in May. The company expects annual revenue to climb from $36 billion in 2026 to $350 billion by 2030, with total five-year revenue reaching approximately $840 billion.
The primary driver of expenditure is the development of computing infrastructure and power for model training and inference. OpenAI anticipates spending approximately $856 billion on these resources through 2030. The final financial outcome remains dependent on variables such as the growth rate of AI service demand, the cost of computing power, and the operational efficiency of future models.
The company is currently in discussions for a new funding round that could value the business at over $1.2 trillion. This follows a March financing event where the firm raised $122 billion at a valuation of $852 billion. These figures underscore the significant capital intensity required to scale advanced AI systems and maintain the necessary infrastructure for a growing user base.
