OpenAI projects a negative free cash flow of $278 billion between 2026 and 2030. The company anticipates spending $856 billion on computing power and infrastructure during this period to support its AI models.
Despite forecasting revenue growth from $36 billion in 2024 to $350 billion by 2030, the company faces potential capital exhaustion by 2028. OpenAI previously raised $122 billion in March.
The current cash burn forecast is an improvement from the May projection of $305 billion. In July, the company reported a 20% increase in annualized revenue following new model launches.
OpenAI is currently in early discussions for a new funding round. Investors have proposed a valuation of around $1.2 trillion, though the company is seeking a higher figure.
The company has delayed its planned IPO, which was previously targeted for this year. The decision follows concerns regarding the pace of AI development and the valuation of companies with significant projected losses.
