OpenAI has updated the default context length for the GPT-6.1 Sol model in Codex and ChatGPT Work. The capacity has increased from 272,000 tokens to 500,000 tokens as of October 11, 2026.

The model supports a maximum context window of 1,050,000 tokens, with a limit of 922,000 tokens for input and 128,000 tokens for output. Users can manually override the default settings to utilize this full range.

Alongside the capacity increase, OpenAI removed long-context surcharges for subscription users. Developers accessing the model via the API continue to pay $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.

GPT-6.1 Sol was introduced on September 29, 2026, at the DevDay event. It is part of the GPT-6 family and is designed for professional tasks, complex coding, and heavy computer usage.
