OpenAI has introduced real-time collaboration features for ChatGPT Slides, allowing multiple users to edit and comment on presentations simultaneously. The update, which began rolling out on October 16, 2026, is integrated into the Space workspace feature launched at DevDay in late September 2026.
The new functionality enables direct editing of text, images, shapes, and charts within slides, eliminating the need for repeated AI prompts. Users can also leave comments directly on the slides. Currently, access is restricted to Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers who have enabled the Space feature.
At launch, the platform offers two permission levels: view-only or full edit access, with no intermediate comment-only option available. The development follows OpenAI's acquisition of NextSlide on August 9, 2026, which was intended to enhance the presentation capabilities of the ChatGPT platform.
The tool includes export options for compatibility with PowerPoint and Google Slides. This move positions OpenAI to compete directly with established office software suites like Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace by incorporating shared editing and document management features.
