Block, the parent company of Square and Cash App, has integrated OpenAI technology into its security operations. The collaboration resulted in a custom system named Daybreak, which focuses on automating vulnerability discovery, threat detection, and incident response.
The system functions by aggregating security signals and simulating potential attack paths. While the AI handles signal correlation and drafts issues, human analysts retain final authority to verify findings and deploy any necessary changes to production.
According to a case study published on October 14, 2026, the implementation has yielded significant efficiency gains. Triage throughput and the volume of investigations have both increased by approximately 50%.
Daybreak currently automates about 1,100 analyst-hours of investigative work each quarter and has recovered roughly 600 analyst-hours previously lost to false positives. In testing, the system mapped attack paths in 2 hours and generated proposed patches in 18 minutes.
