OpenAI has increased the processing speed of its GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol models by 50%. This performance improvement applies to all third-party applications that utilize the Sign in with ChatGPT authentication feature.

The GPT-6 Astra flagship model launched in September 2026, followed by the GPT-6 Sol model on September 22. OpenAI introduced the GPT-6.1 Sol variant on September 29 during the company's DevDay event.

The GPT-6.1 Sol model is positioned as a cost-effective alternative for coding and professional tasks. It is priced at $2 per million tokens for input and output, which is one-fifth of the $10 per million tokens charged for the Astra model.

OpenAI also reduced the pricing for cached input on the GPT-6.1 Sol model to $0.10 per million tokens. Additionally, the company previously launched an Ultrafast tier capable of generating output at speeds reaching 300 tokens per second.
