OpenAI is currently conducting a funding round with a target of approximately $20 billion, reduced from an initial goal of $30 billion. The company's valuation target has also been adjusted to $1.25 trillion, down from the previously sought $1.4 trillion. Some investors reduced their allocations prior to the October 30 deadline, which may result in the first close falling below the $20 billion target.
A consortium from the UAE, including the state-backed fund MGX, is expected to be the largest participant in this round. The deal may grant OpenAI an option to lease computing capacity within the region. In March, the company raised $122 billion at a valuation of $852 billion. Current market shifts are impacting crossover funds that maintain exposure to both public and private equities.
The company filed confidentially for an IPO in June, with plans to go public by 2027. Meanwhile, Anthropic filed for a Nasdaq listing on October 26, with an expected valuation target between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion. Investors are currently monitoring these developments alongside public market volatility, as the Nasdaq Composite declined 2.86% and the S&P 500 fell 1.82% on October 30.
