Onsemi has officially canceled its planned expansion of a silicon carbide (SiC) wafer production facility in Rožnov, Czech Republic. The project, which was initially announced in June 2024, was valued at $2 billion.
The company cited shifting conditions in the global silicon carbide market as the primary reason for abandoning the investment. Despite this decision, Onsemi maintains that the Czech Republic remains a key part of its long-term manufacturing and growth strategy.
Onsemi confirmed that it will continue its existing semiconductor production operations in Rožnov. The company also intends to proceed with planned investments and recruitment efforts at its facilities in both Rožnov and Brno.
