OmniVision has unveiled the OAX7700, a visual AI coprocessor designed for automotive cameras that operate continuously. The chip integrates an NPU to handle edge computing tasks, such as detecting and identifying people or objects, as well as calculating distances. This technology allows existing surround-view systems to be upgraded into intelligent parking monitoring solutions.

The OAX7700 maintains an extremely low power consumption state while monitoring the vehicle's surroundings. When an event is detected, the camera switches to full operation and records 5–10 seconds of footage preceding the incident. This data is then sent to the electronic control unit for analysis and potential alerts. The company claims the system uses only 3% of the power required by current market alternatives.

The hardware is housed in a 60-pin BGA package measuring 5.5 by 3.5 mm, which includes integrated PSRAM and flash memory. The processor is currently in the testing phase with sample units. OmniVision has scheduled the start of mass production for the first quarter of 2027.
