Swedish biotech startup Omnio has secured €2.9 million in new funding. This capital injection follows a previous round of €4.3 million raised in the spring of 2025, which was used to finalize the company's GMP manufacturing processes.
The company, founded by Professor Tor Ny of Umeå University, is developing a biologic therapy based on plasminogen to treat chronic wounds. Its primary focus is on diabetic foot ulcers, a condition affecting a significant portion of the global diabetic population.
Omnio has successfully established a master cell bank and is currently scaling production for toxicology studies. These tests are a mandatory prerequisite for the company to submit applications for clinical trials, which are planned for 2027.
CEO Felipe Velasquez stated that the company is currently evaluating contract research organizations and potential trial locations across Europe. The initial clinical program will consist of a Phase I/IIa study to assess safety and early efficacy.
The startup intends to launch its next financing round in the first quarter of 2027. These funds are intended to support clinical development until the company obtains its first efficacy data for the plasminogen-based treatment.
