Nvidia is currently in early-stage negotiations regarding the potential acquisition of Reflection AI, a startup specializing in open-weight artificial intelligence models. The discussions may also involve increasing Nvidia's existing equity stake in the company or pursuing alternative arrangements, such as licensing technology and hiring key personnel to mitigate regulatory scrutiny.

Reflection AI is already backed by Nvidia, which has invested $800 million into the startup. Other institutional investors include 1789 Capital. As of March 2026, the startup reached a valuation of $25 billion. Any potential agreement between the two parties could be finalized within the coming weeks.

The startup recently unveiled its Beam model, which reportedly performs on par with the Chinese GLM-5.2 model while consuming 3 to 4 times fewer computational resources. Reflection AI has previously established partnerships with the Pentagon and international allies, including South Korea.

Nvidia's interest aligns with its broader strategy to foster a national ecosystem of open-weight models to compete with Chinese alternatives. The company has previously acquired the Hugging Face repository for nearly $13 billion and continues to invest heavily in AI infrastructure to drive demand for its own AI accelerators.
