NVIDIA has announced a significant update for its DLSS 5 technology, scheduled for release on October 16. The company reports that this iteration will provide a 2x performance increase compared to previous versions, effectively doubling the speed of optimized workloads.

The update also addresses memory efficiency. When running games at 4K resolution with DLSS 5 enabled, VRAM consumption will decrease by 20%. This reduction allows for more game textures to be loaded into memory without resource conflicts.

The performance gains were achieved through a combination of systematic pipeline optimizations and refinements to the neural model. NVIDIA utilizes an internal supercomputer to run continuous loops for testing and improving the technology.

The neural model itself has been reduced in size. The parameter count has dropped from approximately 148 million to roughly 118 million, representing a 24% decrease in the model's footprint.

Since the initial showcase in mid-March, which utilized two GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs, NVIDIA has increased the performance of DLSS 5 by 10x over the course of several months.
