Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated at the Dreamforce conference that the AI industry does not require additional regulations or government oversight to ensure safety. He argued that safety is primarily an engineering challenge that companies can manage using existing testing environments, verification methodologies, and market incentives.
Huang rejected the idea that innovation and safety are mutually exclusive, asserting that both can be achieved simultaneously. He advised companies to refrain from releasing products until they are confident in their functionality and safety, emphasizing that firms should set their own pace based on market readiness.
In a subsequent interview with CNBC, Huang dismissed calls for antitrust exemptions to allow AI labs to coordinate on safety measures as unnecessary. He explicitly disagreed with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who had proposed a three-stage plan for slowing down the development of powerful AI models and suggested that current legal barriers hinder safety cooperation.
During the same event, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff expressed concerns regarding the potential negative impact of AI, drawing a parallel to the issues previously caused by social media platforms. Benioff noted that the industry should aim to avoid repeating the mistakes made during the rise of social networks.
