Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that the company would consider halting chip shipments to clients developing unsafe artificial intelligence models. Huang emphasized that such a decision would only follow prior negotiations, noting that Nvidia provides general-purpose tools and cannot fully control how third parties utilize its technology.
Despite concerns regarding the potential loss of control over powerful AI systems, Huang dismissed current fears as growing pains. He argued that the industry fails to communicate the benefits of AI effectively and suggested that the technology itself should be leveraged to monitor and contain risks, rather than slowing down development.
To support AI safety research, Nvidia has committed $250 million over five years to initiatives in the United Kingdom. This funding provides academic institutions with access to advanced computing power, enabling researchers to study security measures and control mechanisms for AI agents.
