Nvidia has committed $250 million in computing resources to support AI safety research in the UK over the next five years. This initiative provides researchers with access to infrastructure hosted by UK-based Nvidia Cloud Partners, rather than direct cash funding. The program targets institutions including the University of Oxford, UCL, and Imperial College London to study secure AI agents and threat defense.
The research will utilize Nvidia’s OpenShell runtime software and Sentry reference design. This UK-focused commitment follows a separate $1 billion, five-year investment package for US science announced on October 8. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang noted that the company aims to facilitate the development and testing of robust safeguards for increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems.
Beyond research support, Nvidia announced plans to invest in five UK startups: Boltz, Foresight, Hiverge, Prima Mente, and Riverlane. These companies operate across sectors such as biomolecular modeling, infrastructure risk management, algorithmic optimization, and quantum error correction. These planned stakes expand Nvidia’s existing portfolio of UK-based technology investments.
Nvidia’s current UK portfolio includes companies like Wayve, which secured a $1.2 billion Series D round in February 2026, and Basecamp Research, which raised $140 million in September. The company is also a shareholder in Mistral and recently announced plans for $2 billion in new European deals following investments of $8 billion over the past year.
