NTT Data Group is currently in advanced negotiations to construct a dedicated data center for Anthropic in Osaka, Japan. The project is estimated to cost up to $6.3 billion, representing a maximum ceiling for construction expenses.
If the agreement is finalized, the site will serve as Anthropic's first dedicated facility in the country. The data center is expected to rank among the largest in Japan based on processing capacity, with partial operations targeted for 2028.
For NTT, this project aligns with a broader strategy to expand its domestic IT power capacity. The company aims to increase its capacity from approximately 300 MW to 1 GW by the 2033 fiscal year.
NTT recently opened the 30 MW Kyohanna OSK11 data center in the Kansai region in April 2026. Additionally, the company is deploying the AI-Optimized Wide-area Network to support low-latency AI workloads.
