Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has announced a partnership with AI firm Anthropic on September 16. The collaboration aims to integrate Anthropic’s Claude models and the specialized Claude Science tool into the pharmaceutical company’s research and development processes.
The initiative focuses on two primary areas. First, Novo Nordisk will apply Claude Science to R&D workflows that require complex biological reasoning. Second, the company intends to utilize Anthropic’s frontier AI models to enhance its internal software development capabilities.
Novo Nordisk aims to accelerate the drug development timeline, which typically spans over a decade. CEO Mike Doustdar stated that the partnership is designed to compress the path from initial research to a marketed product and strengthen the company’s R&D organization.
This project is part of a broader strategy for Novo Nordisk to become a global leader in AI-driven healthcare. The company previously collaborated with OpenAI and maintains an AI innovation hub in partnership with Amazon Web Services.
Novo Nordisk has prior experience using AI to automate regulatory documentation. The company reported that implementing AI tools allowed it to reduce the time required for this process from months to minutes.
