Novo Nordisk has entered into a partnership with AI firm Anthropic to accelerate drug discovery and development. The Danish pharmaceutical company will utilize the Claude Science platform, specifically designed for scientific research, to address complex biological questions and enhance its research efficiency.

This collaboration is part of a broader trend among major pharmaceutical companies, including Eli Lilly, Merck, and Roche, which are increasingly integrating AI into their workflows. Novo Nordisk aims to leverage Anthropic’s models to improve its software development capabilities and gain deeper insights into human biology and drug mechanisms.

While AI is currently used for automating routine tasks like data analysis and patient recruitment for clinical trials, it has yet to result in a fully approved drug. Industry experts note that AI is particularly effective in identifying patients for rare disease trials by analyzing large-scale electronic health records.

The partnership emphasizes responsible AI implementation, incorporating strict data governance and human oversight to ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards. This initiative follows Novo Nordisk’s previous collaborations with OpenAI and Amazon Web Services to establish an AI innovation center.
