The Norwegian government announced on October 5 its intention to submit a draft bill to parliament seeking a temporary ban on the use of AI glasses in specific sensitive areas. This legislative move aims to address privacy concerns regarding unauthorized photography, video recording, and audio capture in public and private spaces.
The proposed sensitive zones include parks, beaches, museums, shopping centers, schools, kindergartens, playgrounds, extracurricular centers, medical facilities, and fitness centers equipped with changing rooms or showers. Authorities are currently evaluating whether the scope of this ban should extend to higher education institutions and other educational facilities.
To support long-term regulatory efforts, the government plans to establish an expert advisory body. This committee will conduct in-depth investigations and facilitate public discussions to determine permanent legislative measures. The initiative reflects the government's desire to prevent social unease caused by the potential for covert surveillance in environments where individuals typically expect privacy.
